Chios Mastiha is a type of resin produced from the mastic tree (Pistacia Lentiscus var. Chia). It is a natural, aromatic resin in a teardrop shape that is cultivated since antiquity in Chios Island in the Aegean Sea.
It contains terpenic acids, phytosterols, polyphenolic molecules, and plenty of active ingredients, more than 80 nutrients with known beneficial properties for the stomach.
It has a proven traditional use since 1997, Chios mastiha has been named as a Product of Protected Designation of Origin.
The know-how for the cultivation of Chios Mastiha has been included by UNESCO on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
